Aug 10th - National night Out Success:
The Oxford Town Watch Association wishes to extend their gratitude to the Borough residents who participated in our first annual National Night Out Block Party event on Tuesday, August 5, 2008, especially those residents who live on Broad Street between 5th an 6th Streets who had to deal with having their street blocked off for several hours. We also wish to thank the Oxford Tribune for publishing information about the event for several weeks in a row.
In addition, we would like to extend our thanks to the performers, 'Karte Blanche' and 'Pearl Street', for providing us with great music for the festivities, as well as Lillydale Catering for providing delicious food for everyone. Also, thank you to Atlantic Tractor for donating their flatbed trailor for use as a stage for the bands. Judging by the comments overheard, along with the expressions on the faces within the crowd, it seems a grand time was had by all.
A special note of thanks goes out to Mayor Geoffrey L. Henry, Chief John Slauch, and the Oxford Police Department for supporting our efforts and helping us coordinate with the Bourough to make this event such a success.
Chief Slauch, Cpl. Scott Brown, and Ofcs. Coverly and Whisler were on hand to greet the public, and the Department had their Community Relations tent set up with various displays, "give-aways", and a raffle.
One thing we, the Oxford Town Watch Association, have learned from this event, and Mayor Henry, Chief Slaugh, and the rest of the Police Department agree with: We need to do this again! We hope to see everyone again next year!
